[Sustainability]
Sustainability is at the core of our mission and values. The facilities run on renewable power. Power production is close to the facilities, securing an absolute minimal transmission loss of power. In addition to running on renewable power and operating with world-class low PUE, the CO2 emission from the facility is low and the footprint is limited. The facility will be built in an industry park with limited visibility for surrounding neighbors. WUE (Water Usage Effectiveness) is close to zero, and we will reuse the waste heat.
Norway is unique in having a large surplus production of renewable, low-cost power. Norway is ranked number 1 in the world on secure, accessible, and diversified energy supply. As much as 98.5 % of the country's total power production is hydroelectric. Norway produces nearly twice as much renewable energy as any other Nordic country.
[Heat reuse]
We will reuse all heated return water generated from our operations. Our cooling solution is based on a stable supply of air that is converted to “cold” water. Using Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) the water is heated in the cooling process. The waste heat is transported out of the facility. Technology is developing fast, and within a few years we will see temperatures above 60°C return.
Over the coming 2 years LMD will conduct studies on how to best reuse the waste heat at Sunnfjord Næringspark. The work has already started with Sunnfjord Tomteselskap evaluating distribution paths for the water. See the map and the downloadable energy plan.
[Commitments]
LMD is a member of ICT Norway. ICT Norway is a proud signatory of the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact, committing to the European Green Deal ambitions and to making data centers climate neutral by 2030. Although we are fully committed to achieving the goals set forward in the pact, which are already a part of our solution, we strive every day to become greener in all parts of our business and operations.
Lefdal Mine Datacenter has joined the iMasons Climate Accord. This is a historic coalition designed to govern a methodology to measure and reduce carbon in infrastructure through products, power, and materials. More than 70 companies have already joined, including the hyperscalers Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Meta, and Google. We all agree that the key to achieving carbon neutrality is uniting.
